The cost of your new exhaust largely depends on your vehicle and how many components you want to change.

It also depends on whether you will be doing the installation yourself or hiring a local garage to handle it. Generally, you can expect to spend between $500 and $2,000 for your new exhaust upgrade.

Compared to other parts of your vehicle, this is one of the more cost-effective updates you can make.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. An upgraded exhaust is a sign that someone genuinely cares for their vehicle. That extra touch can attract buyers who are willing to pay more for the extra performance.

As a rule of thumb, if you are concerned about your resale value, focus on performance and fuel economy. Loud, aggressive exhaust systems can decrease resale value because, in many neighborhoods, strict rules on vehicle noise exist, making many of these loud vehicles undesirable for many buyers.

You most certainly can. Many car enthusiasts like to work on projects over the weekend, which includes optimizing an exhaust system.

However, this is not a job for a beginner. Experienced garage mechanics will find it a breeze, but without some experience, tools, and welding skills, it’s better to hire the services of a professional to handle the job.

You will also need to know the rules and regulations regarding size and noise in your area. Some parts of the country have limits on how large or noisy an exhaust system can be.
